What are Agates?

Agates are a natural form of silicon dioxide and are a variety of Chalcedony. They can show a wide variety of vivid, multiple hues. All agates take a wonderful polish and are tough enough for most jewelry uses. Designers often take advantage of the intriguing patterns these stones have to offer to create unique and fascinating pieces. These are semi-precious stones.

Agate Gemstones

Agates have been used as gemstones for thousands of years. They were some of the earliest stones fashioned by people. Today they are cut into cabochons, beads, small sculptures, and other functional objects such as coasters, book ends etc. Agate cabochons are popular and are used in rings, earrings, pendants, and other jewelry objects. Agate beads are commonly made into necklaces and earrings.
